Dear Bee Ridge Members & Friends,

The greatest joy of our lives involves daily sharing God's unlimited supply of love, peace, and eternal life in all of our relationships.  I was once again inspired by this truth through a discussion of the Apostle Peter's experience as a fisherman before and after Jesus' resurrection. ("Christian Century," April 4th).

Peter's work as a fisherman in first century Palestine was much different than recreational enjoyment of the sun, water, and fresh air.  Before he met Jesus, the central question of Peter's life was: "Will I catch enough fish today so I can get by?"

After a fishless night on the Sea of Galilee, the resurrected Christ called from shore with fishing instructions for Peter and his companions: "fish on the other side of the boat!"  Now, the net filled with so many large fish that they could not haul it in! (John 21:6)

Peter, the veteran fisherman, learned something new about fishing.  After Jesus served breakfast on the beach and assured Peter of Jesus' love, Jesus taught him to ask a new question.  Never again did Peter each day worry with the question: "Will I catch enough fish today to get by?"  Instead, Jesus taught Peter to continually ask:  "How can I gather together more people to feed on God's unlimited blessings?"

After Easter, God's Spirit continues to teach all of us about this "resurrection question."  During the winter and spring seasons, God filled us with his forgiveness, joy and peace.  Now the Spirit helps us ask: "What friends, neighbors, and 'new friends' is God inviting to share in God's abundant peace, joy, and eternal life?"

I look forward to enjoying the ongoing and new friendships God continues to bless us with each day as we worship, fellowship, and serve together as members of God's family!

Your friend in Christ,

Pastor Karl
